Kentucky Basketball fans will never forget.

It was the 1992 East Regional Final; the date was Saturday, March 28.   The Kentucky Wildcats were leading the Duke Blue Devils by one point 103-102. It was overtime and there were just 2.1 seconds on the clock.  Grant Hill inbound the ball the length of the court where the hated Christian Laettner caught the pass.  Big Blue Nation held its collective breath as the fadeaway jump shot floated through the air as time expired.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!  Children and adults across the Bluegrass State wept uncontrollably.  The pain and disappointment was too great.

As much as Big Blue Nation would like to forget that awful day, we can’t.  It’s always there and it’s never going away.  People label it “The Greatest Basketball Game Ever Played”.   UPS made a commercial about it and calls it logistics.  Every March, when the madness rolls around, replays are always shown of that dreadful play.

It’s been almost 21 years since that game occurred and Kentucky’s hatred for Duke still remains strong.  And tonight when Kentucky and Duke square off to play in The Champions Classic, Wildcat fans will be screaming for a victory.  Even though this is only the second regular season game and not a Regional Final or Championship game, it’s still Duke.  And beating Duke in any way, shape or form, in any competition, somehow feels like retribution for that shot to the heart they gave us in 1992.

Most of the current players on both teams weren’t even alive when the 1992 game between the University of Kentucky and Duke was played, but you can bet that they have had their history lesson.  Each player is well aware of the past meetings between their schools and realizes that even though it is early in the season, both teams are playing for a victory against a storied program.

In the past, the Kentucky faithful have turned Atlanta into CATlanta and with a game of this magnitude, we are pretty sure the Kentucky Blue will rule the town once again.

So CATS fans, get ready for tonight’s showdown.  Gather your friends and get out your Blue and White pom-poms.  Make sure your lucky Kentucky shirt is clean and ready to wear, because it’s almost game time!

Let’s GO CATS! BEAT DUKE!

One last thing to get you fired up for the game.  Check out the video from Kentucky Wildcats TV of the Kentucky Basketball team leaving the Bluegrass and arriving in CATlanta.  GO CATS!

The 2012 Kentucky Basketball season in now officially underway!  On Friday night Wildcat fans everywhere were anxiously awaiting the match-up against Maryland, the first real test this year.

Before the game Coach Calipari, Papa John’s and the team presented a check for 1 million dollars to the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.  It is always very cool to see the power of Big Blue Nation at work when people are I need of help!

The first half of the game was all Kentucky.  The team went into the half with a 49-36 lead.  With a quick dunk by Alex Poythress to open the second half, it looked like we were picking up right were we left off.  Maryland, however,  had other plans of making this a game.  The Terrapins went on a furious rebounding and scoring run that eventually gave them the lead.

From there on, the teams went back and forth with multiple lead changes.  One unexpected UK player helped the CATS fight their way to a victory though.  After a stellar overall game, Jarrod Polson hit two clutch free throws to give Kentucky the 72-69 point victory.

So there you have it, first game of the 2012 basketball season and we had a nail bitter. We suspect this young team will continue to get better and better as the season progresses, just as they always have under the watchful eye of Coach Cal.

Up next is the Duke Blue Devils and probably one of the most anticipated games for Kentucky fans all season.  We’re pretty sure we know what you’ll be watching this Tuesday evening.

See you at The Champions Classic Basketball Tournament in CATlanta.

GO CATS! BEAT DUKE!!

University of Kentucky Big Blue Madness 2012

Kentucky Basketball fans, the time is near.  It seems like it was just last month that we watched Anthony Davis and company cutting down the nets in “Blue” Orleans.  However, it wasn’t last month, it was last April, and after a long summer with no UK Basketball, the long wait is over.

It’s KENTUCKY BIG BLUE MADNESS time!!!

We know it was hard saying goodbye to Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, Teague, Lamb, Jones and Miller, but the future of the University of Kentucky Basketball is very bright.  This Friday night, the lights of Rupp Arena will shine down on the future UK legends at one of the greatest college traditions in college basketball…the 2012 Big Blue Madness!

No matter if this is your first time attending or your 20th in a row, Big Blue Madness never, ever disappoints.  Simply put, it’s Kentucky Basketball, and no one does it better than us!

Big Blue Nation will welcome the new team with music, screams and cheers.  We will show this team why we are the greatest fan base in America, and this team will show us why they chose to be Kentucky Wildcats.

The quest for banner number 9 starts on Friday night.

Kentucky Basketball is back….GO CATS!!

The New Wildcat Coal Lodge

The new school year is underway at the University of Kentucky and the the students have settled into their new homes.  This includes the Kentucky Basketball Team.  Their new home is just slightly different than what most college students and even other collegiate athletes across the nation will experience during their stay at school.

The basketball players new home is the Wildcat Coal Lodge which isn’t too shabby.  By not too shabby we mean it’s incredibly, off the charts, awesome!  Or in the words of Coach Cal, “It’s the gold standard in housing”.

Seriously, what recruit could say no to living in a place like the Wildcat Coal Lodge?  Here is a quick rundown of what it has to offer:

Individual Rooms, Private Chef, Itinerary Flat Screens, Media Room with recliners, and Pool Table.  All of the Championship Trophies greet the players as they walk in, just so they don’t forget the real reason they came to Kentucky in the first place.

Want to see for yourself?  Check out the links below and Coach Cal will take you on a tour of the new facility:
